The encaustic medium is magical, vibrant and translucent.  My creative muse guides, inspires and feeds my soul through this medium, mixed media and collage.  Blessing me with endless moments of creative joy and harmony...providing those ahhaa moments about life.  Join me on this creative journey, spend some time reading my musings about this life, the blessed other souls that come into contact with mine, however brief or often, that can leave everlasting imprints on our journey....perhaps our lives might share some similarities, bringing us closer and more connected...and less isolated.

"I suppose there is one friend in the life of each of us who seems not a separate person, however dear and beloved, but an expansion, an interpretation, of one's self, the very meaning of one's soul." ~ Edith Wharton

Here's to finding those expansive moments.....

Cycles of Time, Altered Book, Encaustic Mixed Media, 2012

Artist Statement
Beyond the Cover, a book arts exhibit  is a show of works that open, using old books, either in their sum or their parts.  In this series, the concept of ‘home’ is explored; where home like structures are created using book parts, found objects and collage materials with encaustic medium.  The structures are created to symbolize the notion of things that make up ‘home’ on a spiritual and/or emotional level.
The ‘home’ symbolizes the ‘self’ of deeper consciousness outside of the ego center.  During a time in my life where great change is unfolding, the identity of self is questioned, explored and being reckoned with.  Places where we might feel a sense of brokenness, also opens the doors to a place of “Maitri”, loving kindness to self and a place where new stories to live by can be written, or created to be a guidance, such as in the “Oracle”.
In my artwork, I use found objects, antique findings, Bengali letters, personal iconography to explore visual narratives about life’s ever changing experiences and tell them here as stories, in a book, with chapters paying most attention to the spiritual aspects of life, feminist politics and cultural concepts.  The process and practice of visually creating allows me to delve into the mystic, experience intrigue, find solace, comfort and connection within my day-to-day human experiences.
