Detail of "Moon Dance" from above, new encaustic works
The Call, 24 x 24, Encaustic Mixed Media
This new encaustic mixed media body of work is a whimsical & narrative exploration of the notion of cycles, patterns & time via the moon’s waxing and waning phases.
The work encourages rumination on the ebb and flow of life, the less vs. more, and the slowing of pace, softly exploring these concepts.
The use of texture vs. smoothness with the medium and the symbolic imagery tells tales about the magical power and energy of the moon on our lives as she cycles through ‘waxing and waning’.
The symbolic imagery of the various modes of vehicles in flight, ladders, wings, birds & owls, lotuses, clock faces, travel, and flying trees with roots all in relation to the moon, depict for me the various symbols of time and cycles.
“The moving moon went up the sky.
And nowhere did abide;
Softly she was going up,
And a star or two beside”
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
