The encaustic medium is magical, vibrant and translucent.  My creative muse guides, inspires and feeds my soul through this medium, mixed media and collage.  Blessing me with endless moments of creative joy and harmony...providing those ahhaa moments about life.  Join me on this creative journey, spend some time reading my musings about this life, the blessed other souls that come into contact with mine, however brief or often, that can leave everlasting imprints on our journey....perhaps our lives might share some similarities, bringing us closer and more connected...and less isolated.

"I suppose there is one friend in the life of each of us who seems not a separate person, however dear and beloved, but an expansion, an interpretation, of one's self, the very meaning of one's soul." ~ Edith Wharton

Here's to finding those expansive moments.....

CWEN Twenty Ten Exhibit - Features 20 Women Artists from Diverse Backgrounds at the Barber Gallery

CWEN TWENTY TEN - Opens at the Barber Gallery Sat. Feb. 13th 2 - 4 p.m. Exhibit runs until March 9th, 2010. Featuring twenty wonderful women artists.

Twenty women artists, celebrate Valentine's Day, Family Day, and International Women's Day.
Valentines, a celebration of love spanning centuries and cultures has it's roots in "valens" translated as worthy. Finns celebrate Ystavanpaiva, or "all friends day," where alongside romance, all friends are honoured. Welcome friends!
Here's what the show is all about:

Inspired by the olde Anglo Saxon word “Cwen,” a synonym for woman as queen, the Barber Gallery is pleased to host“Cwen Twenty Ten” a celebration of the prolific attributes and relationships in the lives of ancestral and contemporary women.
Old Irish, Scots, Welsh, Germanic, Russian, Norse, Norman, and Slavic definitions with roots in the middle and far east, site abundant text, mythologies and stories concerning the nature of, and what it means to be… women.
Mother, daughter, sister, lover. Friend, warrior, worker, teacher… Cwen combines qualities, some sacred, some not so much, in an attempt to interpret the feminine mystique.
The Barber Gallery is pleased to host twenty insightful women artists who portray the story of women through youth and age, love and loss, work and play, old stories and new, both naughty and nice, in honour of all things feminine.
Guelph Wellington Women in Crisis will have an information booth in the gallery.
Embracing Valentine’s Day, Family Day, and International Day of Women, Cwen Twenty Ten” runs from SaturdayFebruary 13th, to March 9th with an opening reception Saturday February 13 from 2-4 P.M.
Opening day reception will feature choreography and dance by Ishra from Invoke-Tress Dance Theatre. Her performances will include a playful piece on the art of feminine flirtation, and a mystical piece portraying the heroic strength of women in mythology.
“Cwen” visual artists: Shirley Al, Andrea Bird, Olivia Brown, Marilyn Clarke, Annette Dyon, Nancy Farrell, Karen Fralich, Supria Karmakar, Mary Karavos, Karolina Kuras, Michelle Le Blanc, Jo Lomas, Jean Maddison, Marion Manning, Perry Acey McEwen, Sona Mincoff, Tina Newlove, Grayce Perry, Kathleen Schmalz, Barb Shaw, Janet Stanley, Debbie Thompson Wilson.
Special thanks to F&M Brewery and Yellow Tail Wines for their convivial offering of ambrosial nectar.
Everyone welcome! Please, bring along your friends and family to enjoy art, dance, food and drink, an afternoon of friendship and merry-making, as we celebrate this season of love!
Free admission. Free parking.
"All Friends Day" to March 9th we'll be accepting donations of new and good used bedding, sheets, pillow cases, blankets, towels, face cloths and toiletries to be donated to women and children's shelters through Guelph Wellington Women in Crisis

Fourth Annual Encaustic Painting Conference - Registration begins today...this is like encaustic heaven for me... I can't wait

Photos: Sally Seamans, top; Terry Slater

This is most definitely like encaustic heaven for me...the fourth annual conference registration is open today and I can't wait to go again this year...
There is so much that is magical about this conference, the 'buzz' of energy, the sharing, the wonderful demonstrations and talks and the great supplies to choose from...each year I am left just itching to get home to try some of the new techniques and I always seem to leave with much needed rejuvenation from the wonderful community of friends I have met and spent time with...

I hope to see some of you again there this year and meet new friends... Check it out..it is WELL WORTH it...believe me... : )

Twenty-Ten, New Year, New Decade

"Taking Flight", Encaustic Mixed Media Collage, 14 x 26, 2009

Happy New Year (belated), as the new year turns, so does a new decade and I had a wonderful opportunity to do a visioning session with 6 other lovely womyn on Sunday Jan. 3rd in my studio space..the energy was vibrant, alive and full of positivity and possibility... I find myself still enthralled in this energy of visioning. I have been engrossed in this fabulous book called"The Answer - Grow Any Business Achieve Financial Freedom, and Live an Extraordinary Life" by John Assaraf and Murray Smith...it is an inspiring and I believe a life changing book. Besides that it makes me feel such joy just reading it....I highly recommend it. I am so grateful to my good friend Tracy for this gift, which I received on my 40th, almost 2 years ago....better late than never.

Here are some of things I will accomplish this year:

1. Find more balance in my everyday living, to live a more holistic life - yoga, walking, art, reading, home and family time and time with friends, travel and find moments for silence and solitude.
2. Continue to grow my art and creative business - my Creative Wellness Services will grow this year x 3
3. Collaborate with other service providers and bring more creativity within the community setting
4. Provide more community service
5. To appreciate and give thanks, gratitude weekly.
6. To meditate and live listening to my inner voice
7. To feel and give more love and find unlimited compassion
